That One Slide for Writers Resources

This is one of the lists you'll see on my presentations. I say to pause it to reference it if you'd like an idea for books on the craft or otherwise for references to better your writing. Here's one of the lists. No, I'm not paid to tell you about these. They're simply some of the books I find valuable to have on my shelves as a writer who knows that I don't know everything and other people have knowledge you can tap into via books!

Baby Name Books (doesn’t matter which ones, but having a few should suffice)

A Dictionary (whichever are your favorites, but unabridged is best)

A Thesaurus (again, author’s choice!)

Writer’s Guide to Medicine 1 and 2 (most others probably need 3 as well) –Natalie Dale, MD

The DSM-5 (only if you’re familiar with and writing from a physiological/psychological point of view)

The Writer's Guide to Weapons: A Practical Reference for Using Firearms and Knives in Fiction -Benjamin Sobieck

Fight Write: How to Write Believable Fight Scenes –Carla Hoch

The Linchpin Writer: Crafting Your Novel's Key Moments –John Matthew Fox

Strong Verbs for Fiction Writers –Valerie Howard

Reading Like a Writer: A Guide for People Who Love Books and for Those Who Want to Write Them -Francine Prose

The Elements of Style- Strunk & White

The Anatomy of Story –John Truby

The Anatomy of Genres–John Truby

Little Red Writing Book –Brandon Royal

The Genre Writer's Book of Writing Prompts & Story Ideas –The Mayday Writing Collective
